Kindle 2 or Asus eReader ?
I was planning on buying a Kindle 2 but than I heard asus was going also gonna make a cheaper ereader (0) with dual screens – http://ebook.josgandos.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/AsusColorEReader_thumb.jpg.
They also say its gonna have a webcam, microphone, wifi and will let you talk through skype.
Am I better off with a kindle or should I wait for the asus one to come out?

I love my Kindle 2 very much, and I don’t think the asus reader can beat the Kindle 2. Asus is famous for netbooks, so I think they will use the color screen of netbooks for their ebook readers. However, LCD are backlight and they are no good to our eyes for long hours of reading. Just imagine that you are reading at the words, page by page on your computer…
Another thing is on the available content for the new ASUS reader. Amazon has been stocking up ebooks for their Kindle device for two years, and they have huge content for the Kindle. ASUS reader is new to the market, and it will be really difficult for them to compete with Amazon for ebook content. You know, even for Sony Reader which has been in ebook reader market for around 2 years, people still complain that it is difficult to find books for Sony Reader. Many go for the Kindle because of this…
I suggest you to read this article from a top reviewer as well:

BTW, there are some website like this one, where you can find more than 20,000 free books for the Kindle. So no need to go to library to borrow them, you can actually own them:

Hope this helps.
The ASUS reader is still in rumor. However, I don’t think they can be better than the Amazon Kindle. Amazon has been developing ebook readers for 2 years since the Kindle 1, and they kept on improving their device and content support. They are now having the biggest market share, 60% of the ebook reader market.
I don’t think a competitor like ASUS, which is completely new to the market, can come close to Amazon… There must be many problems when the first ASUS reader launch, just like what happens when the Kindle 1 is launched. And I guess there will be quite a number of things not as mature as the Kindle…
So I’ll vote for the Kindle. I remember I read these reviews when I decided to get it:

And guess you know, Amazon has just put a price slash on the Kindle 2, and it is now selling $100 cheaper than the price I got my Kindle, and it adds in international wireless access… So take the chance if you want it.
Hope it helps
