Not to mention I’d get all the capabilities of a notebook (multitasking, flash, real programs, photoshop, etc…) plus a removable battery, usb ports, etc…
Apple could have made a really cool mobil tablet/netbook but the iPad is a fail…Maybe the next generation the designers will take their heads outa their ass and actually give us something we can use…
Its cool, but I’d rather save my money. I’ll keep my iPod shuffle(small on the go ipod), Droid Eris(phone + verizon), ipod touch(benefits of the iphone without AT&T) my macbook pro, and my imac…….If I do decide to get a netbook type device I’d much rather get a Dell Mini 10, slap on snow leopard, an apple sticker, and have a $300 10″ fully functioning mac/netbook with a webcam, and 3G…..Instead of an oversized ipod touch….I love Apple, but really, what were they thinking with the iPad?
People don’t have any gaps. You have phone/PDA, netbook, laptop, desktop, anyone thinking their is suddanly a fith slot is merely demonstrating how truely gullable they are! The only class here is size, and I’m sorry to tell you this, but apple costs the same as a tablet PC, with half the features of a tablet PC, just to do the job of a tablet PC.
P.S. If you would like to leave me your name and address I’ll be over soon to sella brick. But not just any brick, a $699 brick with apple’s logo.
lol. You seem to think i’m some kind of PC fanboy dedicated to all things PC.
First, I own an iPod, it’s great. I get all my e-mail, surf the net, listen to music, stream music radio and sometimes watch BBC’s iPlayer on it.
The iPad is the same bloody thing, only at an inconviniant size, several hundred dollars more expensive, with iwork slapped in. (keyboard sold extra)
This product is not here to “kill” your precious PC “counterparts (although it very much might do so anyway because all those PC manufacturers are going to put iPad killers out that don’t offer any of the specialized touch ENHANCING applications that the iPad wil do/does), but it’s trying to fill a gap that many people have. Apple might also incorporate remote control features later on or at launch (who knows…well not you and me), that will be much cooler than anything on windows Tablet PC’s..
I don’t (and I know plenty of other people are with me on this) want a downsized/scaled PC running 3D rendering in the background, while I watch porn in IE with the Flash plugin, while eating pizza and playing Need for Speed…and believe me, a lot of people agree with me on this. IF I wanted that, then I wouldn’t use a Netbook (or for that matter a Notebook) but a workstation/Mac Pro/PC cabinet style computer) which could be upgraded and fitted to my personal “professional” needs
…unlike you windows counterparts which run unmodified mouse pointer oriented programs). And for god’s sake, IT’S NOT A TABLET PC!!! Tablet PCs suck balls…they are not good for anything other than controlling your windows environment with a pen-?! Now tell me what’s so great about that.
iPad has a lot of potential. To me you sound like a scared Apple hater, trying to convince people that they don’t need this product…have you ever thought that this product is EXCACTLY what many of us lust?
Oh come on! You sound so scared of the iPad that it’s ridiculous. Your repeated points of “no multitasking”, “no flash”, “no regular windows programs” etc. are just ridiculous.
If you just look at what version Apple launched the iPad with, you’ll see that it was iPhone OS 3.2…4.0 will very likely be launched this summer with a lot of the features users have wanted on iPhone since launch (multitasking, NO flash (thank god) support for “legacy” iPhone Apps (wich are great for touchscreens…
haha ipod touch XL = dsi XL!!
THANKS, I WILLL CHECK THE ACER one, i am thinking to update my mobile computing “life”….
It comes with two processors attached to the same storage, as far as I’m aware. One mobile processor of HTC’s own design and an intel 800mhz processor for windows. I know for certain that Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.1 is installed.
But it goes to show, you can either reduce the OS, or up the hardware, you can’t have it both ways.
The Core duo 1.3Mhz Acer Timeline multi-touch looks to be a good alternative to me. Plus it has 8 hours battery life. Just wait and install Chrome OS as well
i knew that thing, but it kind of failure for me, for a mobile it is too big, for a laptop the keyboard is just tiny. By the way, you may check the website again, there probably no windows mobile, but a HTC mobile operating system. Anyway, the idea is good, another cool product is lenovo U1 laptop, but from the video, the tablet part just very slow and stuck sometimes, another failure, i guess.
Thank you.
HTC did one a while ago. The HTC Shift x9500 UMPC was released in 2008, it weighted just 0.76kg and, may I add. Unlike apple they managed to include a slide out keyboard! It slid out, and the screen tilted much like the Nokia N97. It had two OS’s built in. Windows Vista and Windows Mobile.
There are also laptops that have microsofts sideshow built in allowing you to check e-mails without powering up the laptop.
i have to say: this video is awesome! ipad really is just bigger ipod, 499 dollar, we can get a everything better netbook, actually, what i am thinkging is why netbook don’t try to make dual OS on one netbook, make one of them as power save, but support every essential app, like ebook, video, high quality video, surf on internet…. and 1 second start os, 1 second off os. So, if windows 7 for 11 hour, with this OS go 22 hour, totally defeat IPAD
realy enjoyed this video
@amjid300 ummmm you might want to rethink what you just said
so your saying the hardware doesnt matter?
thats like saying hey im going to buy a car and the # of seats it has doesnt mean how many people it can hold
re think your arguement or learn a little about computers before you post something like this
btw, if you’ve got a spare $700 dollars, I’ve got a tablet PC you can buy off me!
It’s a Pentium 2, 466Mhz RM tablet with 512Mb RAM, it has 20Gb hard disk space, and a good battery.
By your logic, you must now, purchase this tablet PC from me and use it. Even though you know it’s specifications are rubbish.
Good luck with that one. Your debt must be freaking massive!
Look, you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. That’s all the iPod has. A pretty cover. You can judge a book by it’s content. I know the following.
A) Limited drive space
B) A mobile phone OS with no mulit-tasking
C) No flash support, so crippled internet
D) Twice the price of a netbook, half the functions.
I have more than enough evidance to proove my case. So far, I’ve not see you put anything forward but a personal insult, and a peice of logic only a mother could love.
You’re welcome.
Thanks for this informational video.
you’re missing the point. Hardware specs alone do not reflect how fast a computer runs. Apple make the hardware, software etc which is why their products run so smoothly.
Stop make judgments before you’ve even had your hands on the product – MORON !
You’re right about people forking out for apples designs. It’s the old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” apple products prove this without a doubt.
The iPad is astetically pleasing to some I’m sure. But it’s style over substance. You’re paying for the brushed metal surfaces, and black screen. When you get down into the innards of the device, it suddanly doesn’t hold up. Apple have made 1 innovative product in the last 20 years, The iPhone, now it’s back to usual, extra money for less.
You can get an Asus T91 with an SSD if you “really really” want one. But to be honest, normal HDD’s boot up pretty quick, we’re talking about seconds of boot time, not minutes. It’s a sad thing when people fork out loads, just to shave 10 seconds off the boot time. I’d rather have the extra space myself. I can full up 64Gb in mere hours! God, when I started with PC’s I was using a 286, a 10 minute boot up time wasn’t usual, and now we’ve got people shaving off mere seconds like it’s a big deal!
The trouble is, it isn’t smaller than any other laptop. Not really. It might be thiner, but you pay a heavy price for it. Again the Asus T91 has a full keyboard, touch screen, windows OS, etc. And it only weights 0.96kg that’s pretty light to all but the most puney of weaklings!
Yeah, the iBook store is too young to bother with yet. if people want digital books, there’s loads for Netbooks. You can even get a kindle and a netbook for less than an iPad!
