The problem is not really the reader, but the method used to produce the pdf file. Some programs generate a bitmap for each page that is converted to a series of embedded images in a pdf file. These make it impossible to scale the text, and are usually unreadable on the device. Other programs generate pdf markup text, which is truly portable and works well.
