Hi guys,
I’ve bought the Nikkor 18-55mm ED II AF-S DX Zoom Lens and the Nikkor 55-200mm AF-S DX Zoom Lens (to work with the D40x) but I don’t have lens hoods along with them. So I dug around a bit on Amazon and found the Nikon HB-34 Lens Hood for 55-200mm DX Nikkor Lens – now my question is, would this hood work fine on both lenses or would I have to buy a separate one for the 18-55mm lens? I’m new to DSLR’s so I apologize in advance if this is a retarded question..!

Thanks!

The advertisement of the Amazon Kindle says that they ALREADY have 145,000 books, magazines and newspapers included in their catalog. But, is it actually true? Aren’t they including each of the NYTimes editions as items? Any ideas?

I recently got a kindle 2. I had it for about 3 days. I put it into sleep mode, then when i took it out of sleep mode, the upper right corner didn’t go back to normal. is there any type of reset or something I can do?

As you probably know already, Amazon has released of a $399 used or refurbished Kindle DX. Amazon has now managed to match all 3 of Sony’s new offerings on price. While Kindle DX Vs Sony Daily Edition was something a lot of readers would not consider because they couldn’t afford the $489 price of the Kindle DX, the lower price means a lot people will now compare the used Kindle Dx with the Reader Daily Edition. Let us see why the used Kindle Dx is a compelling alternative to the daily edition.

Let’s say you’re looking for a larger screen eReader, and considering the Daily Edition because the Kindle DX was out of your budget. You see a used Kindle Dx and you think: a) It’s the same price. Well, it is refurbished. However, Amazon give you a 1 year warranty, same as on a new Kindle DX b) There’s Free Internet. The Sony Reader Daily Edition has wireless just to buy books. With the Used Kindle DX you get Free Internet for life! c) The screen is bigger – 9.7″ is perfect for newspapers and magazines. d) You have read about all the readability problems and glare due to the touch layer on the Sony Touch. You now think that the used Kindle Dx might be more value for money than the Daily Edition.

It is now clear that Amazon is taking the fight to Sony and a good follow-on would be to under-cut the Daily Edition when it comes out. Sony have a lot of ‘feel good’ benefits like ePub support, Openness, Free Google Books, Free Library ebooks and the library finder feature. And it has Touch. Amazon has however got some core value adds that Sony cannot match right now: Free Internet, Over 300K of new books compared to about 100K from Sony and the The Text to Speech feature. The losing factor initially was the price and with the used Kindle Dx, Amazon is beginning to fix it fast. If they drop it to $349, suddenly Sony sees most of the Daily Edition’s target market eaten up.

We are not sure what people may think of ‘refurbished’. Are people going to be comfortable buying the used Kindle DX? Given that Amazon has been telling readers they can test out Kindles for 30 days and return them, could it be that a lot of the Refurbished Kindles have hardly been used? Which brings us to economies of scale and wondering why Amazon is introducing the used Kindle DX instead of cutting prices. At what point are economies of scale going to kick in allowing Amazon to knock down the price of a new Kindle DX? One thing is for sure in this case: a $425 new Kindle DX and a $349 Used Kindle DX, Sony’s Daily Edition would find its target market torn into three portions. Let’s see how Sony will react.
